Arc Flash Inherent Fabric

Industry Terms Explained – INHERENT

When it comes to Arc flash protection Volt Safety recommends the use of Inherent FR Fabric. Inherent FR Fabric means that the FR properties will not be diminished when the Arc flash PPE is laundered.

Take for example Arc flash fabrics that have been treated with FR sprays. These fabrics lose their FR when laundered, and should be sprayed again, or even replaced after a certain amount of launders, per recommendation from the manufacturer.

This means that someone has to document when the Arc flash fabric was laundered, and has to keep it recorded and shared with the relevant personnel. This has to be done for every single Arc flash asset in the customers system. This is difficult to monitor, difficult to maintain and also costly to replace.

Alternatively, Inherent Fabrics such as DuPont Protera, Parvotex, Lenzing and Nomex do not lose their FR properties, and do not require extra administrative steps to ensure employee safety.
